IT Field Engineer – Managed Services

The Role

Are you ready to take your IT career out of the help desk and into the field? We’re looking for a Field Technician to join our growing Managed IT Services team. If you have a strong technical foundation, enjoy variety in your day, and thrive on solving problems face-to-face with clients, this could be the perfect next step.

This full-time role is hands-on and dynamic you’ll work directly with clients in the Willmar/St. Cloud area, both on-site and remotely. From installing new infrastructure to troubleshooting complex systems, you’ll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact while growing your technical expertise. This role is an excellent fit for someone who has outgrown the help desk and is ready for more responsibility beyond the confines of a cubicle, enjoys the freedom and variety that fieldwork offers, and is a junior engineer eager to sharpen their skills while working directly with clients.

Position Summary

  • Serve as a hands-on escalation point for technical issues via remote and on-site support.
  • Troubleshoot and support hardware, software, networking, and cloud systems.
  • Maintain Microsoft 365 environments, including Intune and Active Directory.
  • Monitor and manage client infrastructure with RMM (Remote Monitoring & Management) tools.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot firewalls, VPNs, access points, and switches.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in our PSA (Professional Services Automation) system.
  • Provide proactive support, conduct client-facing assessments, and make recommendations.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for hardware/software support or escalations.
  • Interact directly with clients while performing installations and support services.

Skills & Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field – or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or field service.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Windows Server environments.
  • Solid networking fundamentals (firewalls, switches, VPNs, etc.).
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery systems.
  • Exposure to virtualization platforms (Hyper-V or VMware) a plus.
  • Ability to self-manage tasks, communicate clearly, and work effectively with clients.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
