Written by Justin Trantham | Mar 12, 2021 5:23:59 PM

Has printing on your Windows 10 computer caused it to blue screen? We have had a lot of calls at Coordinated and have been helping our clients uninstall Microsoft’s latest patch.

The KB’s we have found that cause this were released on 3/9/2021:

  • Windows 10 version 1803 — KB5000809 (OS Build 17134.2087)
  • Windows 10 version 1809 — KB5000822 (OS Build 17763.1817)
  • Windows 10 version 1909 — KB5000808 (OS Build 18363.1440)
  • Windows 10 version 2004 and 20H2 — KB5000802

This has also been noted in the latest Windows Central article regarding the Windows 10 update crash.

What is Coordinated doing to circumvent this until Microsoft releases a patch?

Our teams have been very busy helping IT admins by uninstalling these updates manually or using a command prompt and entering the following command wusa/uninstall/kb:5000802  then pausing updates for 7 days.

For our clients that are using our managed services programs we are able remove this patch from deployment with our RMM tool and also verify this patch will not push out until Microsoft releases a hotfix.

Lastly, your company can setup patch policies through Group Policy. If you are curious about this, Microsoft does have a best practice article on how to get this setup.

Printers affected by this patch:

  • Ricoh
  • Zebra
  • Kyocera

Considering this isn’t the first time a Microsoft patch has caused havoc on end users please reach out to your IT admin or Coordinated Business Systems to better prepare for any future patch issues that might come up.
